"$2,010 holiday"
For a great getaway out of hustling and bustling Hong Kong, Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) is a perfect pick - just a 2-hour flight away, not expensive and although also a big city, with a very different atmosphere to that of Hong Kong.
Saigon itself is worth a few days to explore not only its exotic Southeast Asian atmosphere, but also its rich remnants of French colonial Indochine, plus of course its cuisine. To add more colour to the holiday, I will insert an excursion to my trip. Take an organised day trip to the majestic wetlands of the Mekong Delta, boating along the maze of canals, which costs less than HK$100 with a basic meal.
By taking advantage of United Airlines’ low fares to Ho Chi Minh (HK$1,335 all inclusive) and staying in budget accommodation at around HK$80 per night including simple breakfast, the whole trip will not cost more than HK$2,010. Besides the signature dishes of Vietnam, spring rolls and Pho (HK$20), I can still treat myself to a good French meal (HK$100) and probably a few packs of Trung Nguyen coffee to take home with me.
